If I Go Down

A man falls into a hole

The hole is dark and lengthy

From the black depths, he sings,

“If I go down, I want you to come down too

It’s quiet down here, and I’m quite alone.

Won’t you come join me, down into death?”

A friend stands above a hole

The hole is dark and lengthy

Atop the black depths, he sings,

“If I go down, you will stay down too

It’s a maze down there, and you’re quite alone.

Won’t you come join me, above the depths,

Instead, instead, instead

Instead of being dead?”
