Welcome to ‘Hotel Transylvania’: A Monsters’ Sanctuary

Welcome+to+%E2%80%98Hotel+Transylvania%E2%80%99%3A+A+Monsters%E2%80%99+Sanctuary

We are safe. Safe from the fire of their anger, the bloodlust in their eyes and intentions of them hunting us down one by one. Safe from the cruel laughter that echos when every ounce of us fades away until we’re nothing but ash. This place can keep us safe from those blood-thirsty monsters; away from those . . . those horrible humans. “A place like that shall exist,” Dracula said. “Away from the humans and away from death. I shall call that place . . . Hotel Transylvania!”

In this animated movie, Dracula (Adam Sandler) has built a lavish five-star hotel where monsters roam around and be their true selves without the interference of humans. One week before his daughter Mavis’ (Selena Gomez) 118th birthday, a human, John, finds his way into the sanctuary of the monsters. Oblivious to the fact that a human has penetrated their safe haven, the monsters go about their business, whereas Dracula tries to conceal John’s actual identity.

Events quickly take a turn for the worst when Mavis begins to develop feelings for John. Dracula, as an overprotective father, does everything in his power to keep these two apart. But his attempts of isolating John fail, because the hotel residents begin to favor John. With Mavis’ party and the hotel’s sanctuary in one hand and John and his reputation in the other, Dracula struggles to maintain balance and keep his daughter out of harm.

In a fun-filled adventure with Frankenstein, werewolves, ghosts and other classical monsters, Dracula’s perspective on humans begins to change. As events in this fabricated world begin to unfold, secrets are revealed, relationships are made, and fear between humans and monsters begin to fade.

Although animated movies are less seen by teens, if you ever want to escape reality, need a place to “fit in”, or simply want to relax, Hotel Transylvania is the place to be.
