The summer of 2015 will mark art teacher Diane Ebert’s art trip to Europe. She, along with art teacher Chris Robbins, will take students to London, Paris, Florence and Rome.

“I want the students to see the artwork that they’ve been studying so that they can experience what’s not in books,” Ebert said.

Ebert lived overseas for a few years before coming to Texas and wants to give the opportunity to her students to see the art styles of Europe and the famous artwork that lives there.

But it is not just a sightseeing trip; in the past, she and her students took a painting class and a flamenco dance class while in Europe.

She plans to take students to Florence, Italy, where they will view famous statues such as Michelangelo’s David. In Paris, they will visit the Louvre, the largest art museum in the world, home to the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo.

They will also visit examples of architectural artwork such as the Tower of London and St. Peter’s Basilica. However, the trip is not exclusively museums and ancient castles.

In Paris, the students will also see the Eiffel Tower and the Champs-Élysées. While in Rome, they will see the Colosseum and Vatican City.

Ebert said that if they finish their trip quicker than expected, they might also travel to Pompeii, Sorrento and the Isle of Capri. The trip will take 10 days, with the possibility of a 3-day extension.

Currently, the price is around $3,000, but this amount is constantly changing. Ebert said that interested students may pay monthly installments of $120 per month.

This trip is not a school-sponsored trip, so it is not limited to only McNeil students. In the past, students from other high schools as well as family members have accompanied the art students on their field trip.
