The tennis team started off this year’s season with a kick. With a record of 8-6, varsity impressively flew through the season. Two of their losses were to Westwood, which is one of the top tennis teams in the state. Three losses were to challenging, out-of-district teams.

Their best game was against Cedar Ridge with a score of 10-4.

“It was a complete team effort to beat them both times, and the boys and the girls did really well against them,” head tennis coach Roger Grass said. “It was a big win both times we played against them.

“Our most disappointing loss was against Pflugerville,” Grass said. “The match lasted more than six  hours and we lost 9-10. Everyone played really hard and we believed that we should have won the match. The loss dropped our district record to 0-2.”

Fortunately for them, they won the next four matches, bumping up their record to 4-2. They finished district and earned the second seed.

This is their second consecutive year they have finished in second seed.

“Finishing second place in back-to-back years in district, I think that’s the first time in school history that happened,” Grass said. “We’re really proud of the players for doing that.

“Last year we had one of the best seasons of school history,” Grass said. “We finished second place in district and we qualified for regionals. Our goal we were hoping to achieve was to try to place second seed in district again, and we did that.
