McNeil wrestling team strikes a victorious pose

The wrestling team issued a beat down in its first home dual of the year Dec. 3. The bout pitted McNeil against juggernauts Austin Anderson and Eastside Memorial, both of which, respectively, lost 66-12 and 24-0 – ultimately placing the Mavs in third place.

While the victories were decisive, each member of the wrestling team had to employ diligent work ethic and a tenacious attitude.

“We prepare by practicing every day, having a good mindset and listening to coach,” sophomore Jason Chu said. “We needed to make the most of our time.”

Also instrumental in McNeil’s impressive victory was Coach Huey Huynh, who earned considerable praise from his loyal cohorts for his passion and wisdom.

“Our coach is really passionate and does all he can to help us to improve,” senior Matthew Kelly said. “We’re a relatively new team and guys aren’t experienced.”

While the season has gotten off to a good start, it’s still young and with many improvements to be made. The relatively raw team has yet to build experience and reach its full potential.

“We’re looking to get more experienced, especially in heavy weights,” senior Daniel Nguyen said. “We’ll be a great team.”
