Lady Mavs Suffer Hard Loss to Pflugerville

In their game at Pflugerville on Dec. 9, the Lady Mavs lost to Pflugerville with a final score of 28-65.

The Lady Panthers have been a challenging opponent for the Lady Mavs as they have not defeated the Lady Panthers in the last five years (10 games). Last year’s games were close, but the Lady Mavs know they need to work on some things so they can win next time they play Pflugerville.

While the Lady Mavs took a lot of shots in the game, they didn’t get the score they would have liked. The team has spent time since their game against Pflugerville working on improving their shooting.

“Our shooting percentage is low,” head basketball coach Jennifer Moore said. “We only make 20 percent of the shots.”

Along with the need to improve their shooting, the coach has other ideas about what went wrong on Tuesday.

“We just returned from a tournament so this was the fourth game in three days, the team may have been tired when they were playing against Pflugerville,’ Moore said.

The players know what they need to do to improve from the Pflugerville game to win games in the future.

“We need to not let the refs define how we play,” sophomore Hannah Sunstrom said. “We get too busy trying to figure out why we got the fouls.”

“We were playing against the other team and the ref. We need to learn to relax under stress and not allow the other team to get the ball,” sophomore Gabrielle Howells said.
