Swimmers Earn All State Honors

Because they placed in the top 24 in the state, many McNeil swimmers earned All State Honors.

“Everyone’s times are compared to everyone else’s in the entire state,” senior Cara Chin said. “So you just have to swim the fastest time and hope nobody else swims faster than it throughout the season.”

The athletes with times/scores which are in the top eight throughout the entire season earn First Team All State Honors. The next eight earn Second Team, and the next eight earn Honorable Mention. The following swimmers earned honors for their success:

First Team

Ross Sullivan – 100 freestyle

Second Team

Girls 200 Freestyle Relay (Cara Chin, Azea Gluff, Christine Gozdalski, Mackenzie Glava)

Boys 400 Freestyle Relay (Ross Sullivan, Nick Shomper, Josh Sullivan, Josh Harris)

Honorable Mention

Girls Medley Relay (Christine Gozdalski, Mackenzie Glava, Cara Chin, Kaitlyn Freeman)

Ross Sullivan – 50 freestyle

Boys 200 Freestyle Relay (Ross Sullivan, Nick Shomper, Josh Sullivan, Josh Harris)

Josh Harris – 100 breaststroke

“I’m really happy to have earned first team honors,” senior Ross Sullivan said. “I believe I was so successful this year because I had people around me pushing me to my limits every day.”

Swim coach Johnny Foss is proud of and impressed by his students for earning these honors.

“This was definitely not a bad year for McNeil swimming and diving,” Foss said. “These kids really deserve these honors.”
