Soccer Boys Take 2nd in District, Advance to Playoffs

The soccer season has gone well for the varsity soccer boys as they placed second in district and advanced to post-season play.

To finish out the regular season, the Mavericks beat Pflugerville 3-1 and tied Round Rock. However, three players received red cards and were ineligible to play in the first playoff game against Westlake.

“The Round Rock game was a really defensive game and a fight instigated by one of the players on the other team caused some of the players on our to have to sit out during the Westlake game,” senior Geoff Arroyo said.

The Westlake game was intense and the bench stepped up to take care of business. At the end of regulation, the score was tied 1-1. After two overtimes, the game went into a shootout. The Mavericks and the Chaps traded goals back and forth, forcing a second round of penalty kicks. The Mavs successfully won on PKs 6-5 to advance to the Area game.

“I’m  really proud of my teammates,” Arroyo said. “We did a really good job against Westlake and look forward to the upcoming games.”

The Mavericks faced Spring High School April 2 at A&M Consolidated High School. The game was tied 0-0 and went into overtime again. This time, the boys didn’t need additional play as they dominated 3-0.
