Sailing into TV ports across the United States is Naval Criminal Investigative Service: New Orleans. The show began on Sept. 23 on CBS. NCIS: New Orleans is a spinoff of NCIS, the third show of its kind.

The show has four main characters; one director, two agents, and one medical examiner. Scott Bakula plays the director, Dwayne Pride, who is constantly seeking to find the truth. Christopher LaSalle, one of the detectives, is played by Lucas Black. Both LaSalle and Pride are Big Easy natives. Zoe McLellan (Meredith Brody) is the female detective new to New Orleans and is determined to learn everything she can about the city.

Since this is a crime show, at least half the characters have to be called by their last name, but NCIS: New Orleans has three-fourths of the characters called mainly by their last name. The part of the medical examiner, Dr. Loretta Wade, is played by CCH Pounder. She uses the highest technology available to patiently and thoroughly inspect the victims.

Each of the characters provide a unique personality to the show. But more than the characters, the setting of the show is clever. Many shows are set in New York, Chicago or Los Angeles. New Orleans is a popular city to visit, but rarely are shows filmed there; this location gives the show a uniqueness that other shows cannot compete with.

The cases are centered around the military, since New Orleans is a major boat hub, such as those of the navy. Lots of service members take leave in the city, and if anyone has too much fun that leads to trouble, the NCIS team is there to solve the crime.

NCIS: New Orleans is a rising new show, definitely worth watching, but not better than NCIS: Los Angeles. The show airs on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. on CBS.
