Divide and Conquer

Sheeran’s new album climbs high in popularity after first week of release.

Divide+and+Conquer

It’s finally here. After a sneak peak of the two popular songs “Shape of You” and “Castle on a Hill,” the album Divide by Ed Sheeran was released on March 3.

The 16 songs on the album tug at your heartstrings with its mix of love songs, break up/ past relationship songs, songs filled with nostalgia, and tearful songs, but it also makes you want to dance or be excited with its different types of rhythms and beats. Some songs have a Spanish twist such as “Barcelona,” a Ghanaian twist with the song “Bibia Be Ye Ye (Everything is going to be okay),” and an Irish twist in the song “Nancy Mulligan.”

Divide proved to be very successful as it has one of the highest sales and streams in its first week release compared to other albums, placing into competition with Adele’s 25 album which sold 800,000 copies within the first week.

Sheeran’s new album is entertaining, fun to listen to, and will not disappoint.
