Get Involved in School Through Clubs

McNeil has an abundance of clubs and teams that students can be a part of. A wide variety of groups have the same interests as you are most likely waiting for you to join them. Certain clubs go to competitions and field trips, others participate in events outside of school as a group.

There are clubs that go hand in hand with academies. HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) is a great club to join if you’re in the Health Science Academy. For those in the Academy of Business & Economics, considering DECA might be a good idea. Interested in the Academy of Professional Studies? Fine arts clubs such as the Drama Club or the Art Club could be something you would enjoy. Those in the STEM Academy have a plethora of options, like the Engineering Club, Mu Alpha Theta, or Robotics.

Joining clubs and organizations is extremely rewarding. Not only does it look good on a college resume, but new friends and experiences are coupled in as well. The most successful people in the world are the ones who are in touch with their community and peers. You will be well-known among the student body if you actively participate in clubs that focus on the student body, such as Student Council.

If you are the type of person who is invested in linguistics and enjoys speaking or learning a language, there’s an abundance of language clubs. Be it Spanish, French, German, Latin or even ASL, not a language is left without its own club. But if being in just a regular club is not enough for you, there are honor society organizations that are available for Spanish, French, German and Latin.

Not all clubs are academically focused, however. There are plenty of clubs that exist for the fun of it; clubs that bring people together through common hobbies or favorite TV shows. McNeil offers a Doctor Who club for those who are fans of the British sci-fi. Anime Club is great place to watch anime and find others who do to.

If you have considered the clubs and organizations McNeil has to offer and found nothing that truly excites you, you might want to consider forming your own group. It’s fun and can be rewarding – if you are willing to put in the time and effort needed to get it up and running. Chances are if it appeals to you, then it appeals to someone else.

High school can be a lot more fun when you’re involved and joining a club is a great way to do just that.
