HOSA Victors Advance to State

HOSA (Health Occupation Student Association) members competed in the HOSA Area Competition. Seven students in individual events advanced to state, as well as one team of students.

Junior Judy Koag won first place with her Extemporaneous Art Poster.

“My topic was about how concussions affects sports,” Koag said. “I created a poster about how concussions can affect those who play sports.”

Koag had three hours to complete the project before it was off to be judged.

“If there was anything I could have done differently, I would have brought more supplies,” Koag said. “You have to bring all your own materials.”

Koag’s partner, junior Ida Kamali, was awarded second place in the same category.

As for team competitors, seniors Meghan Romere, Alisan Turner and William Maynard placed second in the category of Health Education. The major portion of their assignment was to present information about health to a class of fifth graders, and record how it went. Then, they had six minutes to give a speech about what they learned through this experience to the judges.

Those who placed first, second, or third will advance to the state competition.
