Aquatic science teacher Mark Romano poses beside the student-run tank filled with Neon-Tetras.

“It’s important to have [animals in the aquatic science classroom] because students are probably asking themselves ‘When am I going to use this in life?’. Well, they’re making real life happen right here in the classroom by doing the trout program, learning how to start a tank or by just going over there and appreciating nature in its little boxed form here.”

The Principles of Education and Training class pose as a group before leaving to teach at Pond Springs Elementary School.

“My favorite part about the teaching program is how we actually get to be student teachers,” senior Sohni Ballard said. “Teaching is such a hands-on experience based job, so it’s great that we have the opportunity to be in an actual classroom, instead of learning about it through a textbook.”

Book Club poses for a photo during their first meeting of the 2022-2023 school year. Book Club is a student-run organization where students meet once a month to read and discuss the club’s selected book of the month.

“The first meeting was amazing,” junior Archita Roy said. “I loved how everyone was really energetic and the atmosphere was really nice. I hope to read every single book we have this year. Everyone should join Book Club.”

Gina Hinojosa is the new theater teacher at McNeil. She was hired a couple weeks into the school year.
“I was offered a few teaching jobs in different parts of Texas that for some reason just didnt feel like they were the right moves for me,” Hinajosa said. “As cliche as it sounds, I had decided that the offers didnt feel right and for some reason had a feeling that something else was going to pop up even though we were a week into the new school year and that is a very unlikely thing to happen. The morning I declined my offers, a friend whos also new to Round Rock ISD told me about the McNeil position and what they were looking for. I just thought, ‘theres no way.’”
