This I Believe

I believe the sharing of ideas are essential in all aspects of life, because without this single unselfish act who knows what you would be able to accomplish on your own with just your thoughts. I also believe that this act is very beneficial, I mean ask yourself where America might be as a whole without it.

If Henry Bessemer did not share ideas with Andrew Carnegie for a machine capable or mass producing steel, America would not be the thriving country it is today. Carnegie took the ideas back to Pittsburgh and invested all of his savings to potentially have the machine constructed and patented. Today, there are numerous things constructed of steel: skyscrapers, high-rises, ships, cars, major appliances. Think if we did not have any of these essential needs to human life especially in present day. Without steel, we would not have a New York City as we know it; just about every building there is constructed of steel. Without steel, we would not have ships, or train tracks, these are major access ways of transportation and trade. If there is not any trading, then America would not have been able to prosper. So therefore without the sharing of ideas between Carnegie and Bessemer which led to steel, I believe America would not be anything compared to what is today.

Another example of America thriving through the sharing of ideas is by a man named Henry Ford. Ford and his engineers actually did two genius things: install a moving assembly line and mass produce cars. He used the assembly line to speed up the process of production for his Model-T cars. Imagine if Ford kept his ideas of the Model- T or the assembly line process to himself. Who knows, we may still be walking or riding in horse carriages. Ford laid the foundation for future cars to come and introduced the supply and demand economy. America’s economy is based off of supply and demand, otherwise known free enterprise. This was allowed due to the assembly line speeding up the supply rate to meet the demands; it was a major boost to the economy.

I strongly believe without the sharing of ideas from these pioneers America would not be the same as it is today. Since these pioneers were not selfish with their ideas, they allowed for the foundation of America and let it become a powerhouse country.
