Material Memories

My parents kept one of my blankets that I always liked to sleep with when I was a kid; they say that it used to instantly put me to sleep at night.

I still have it today. It’s folded under my pillow, although it doesn’t necessarily help my sleep now. I suppose it is nice to have a piece of my childhood with me.

That blanket carries the history of a 16 year old with many more years left to go. I’m not going to let it go because I have been through so much with it.

I think we get attached to simple objects because we invest meaning and experiences in it. It gives us memory and represents some of our history, we can look at it and see all of our childhood memories.
