Most students are familiar with the hectic rush to register for ACC classes, beginning at 12:01a.m. in a flood that fills up classes at bewildering speeds. Although students are able to sign up for the classes they need for the most part, those who aren’t as vigilant or aggressive sometimes miss the opportunity.
If this happens though, there is no need for students to panic. Other options are available, including online classes such as E2020, Pasadena Virtual School and summer classes through Round Rock ISD Summer School.
E2020 is an online class that can be taken during the school year to make up a failed credit, and Pasadena Virtual School can be taken any time of the year, including the summer. There are pros and cons to both.
“Pasadena Virtual School can be taken for advancement, but is not controlled by teachers at McNeil, so in order to run it, there must be constant contact with far away administrators,” counselor Erin Foulis said. “On the other hand, E2020 is available to students as an option only after they have failed a class.”
Round Rock ISD Summer School offers various in-class and online classes, such as Speech, Health, Government and Economics. It can be taken for advancement or credit recovery. Some classes, such as online speech, are self-paced and only require a student to come in for tests and quizzes.
“It’s a good option for those who can’t or don’t take ACC,” Foulis said. “But if a student fails to gain full credit with summer school, or fails their summer school class, then they still have E2020.”
