Exchange Student Program Can Affect Students Positively
America is one of the best countries in which to receive an education. The high schools and colleges are superior. Exchange students face the culture shock and have to adjust to a totally different environment, however they also can receive a good education, learn or improve their English and experience a diverse culture.
“Studying here is definitely different from Mexico where I come from,” Edwin Arechiga said. “But different in good way. There is better help with work and nicer teachers.”
He also said that schools are cleaner and bigger. He doesn’t need to buy a uniform or supplies, such as textbooks. He is satisfied with school in the United States and feels that he has much more freedom here.
“Not everyone can come here and study abroad, so you shouldn’t take it for granted,” sophomore Euangel Franco said. “Also, you can get a better education and ESL programs.”
At most public schools there is an ESL (English as a Second Language) program, where exchange students are able to easily access education. Schools give advantages to ESL students, such as using translators.
“If you don’t know English, you’re going to have troubles in communication,” Euangel said. “However, learning English is the only hard part you will face.”
Even though learning English is one of the biggest barriers to overcome, exchange students still believe that the benefits of learning English outweigh the struggle of getting to that point. Many exchange students are grateful for their education opportunities in America.
