Dance department performs at annual recital
With a nod to Austin-area culture, Illusions – the annual dance spring recital – showcased performances by the Majestics, Sapphire Dancers, Ballet Folklorico, and dance classes at the Raymond E. Hartfield Performing Arts Center March 23-24.
“I’m excited and thrilled to be a part of this great performance,” junior Sapphire Madeline Picket said.
The show featured the Majestics, Sapphires, dance classes, newbies, and ended with the emotion-evoking video letter from senior dancers commenting about the impact dance has made in their lives.
One special part of Illusions was the traditional Majestics and parents dances and the mini-Majestics performance where young girls attended a rehearsal session to learn the dance.
Behind all of this collaborative work, former Majestics assistant director Alexandra Starnes and director Angel Scrudder supported the dancers in their quest to stage an entertaining show.
“Illusions is my favorite time of the year,” Starnes said. “Sapphires and Majestics dance together on one stage. There are so many things behind the beautiful stage. This couldn’t have happened if there was no team effort.”
Students enrolled in dance department classes were excited about Illusions, too.
“Everyone put in a lot of effort, practiced and prepared a lot,” sophomore Angela Reavis said.
