Assistant Principal Tarah Staton

Assistant Principal Tarah Staton has been at McNeil High School for two weeks. She attended Northwest University in the Seattle area where she majored in Secondary Education. In honor of AP Appreciation week, here are some interesting facts about Staton, from her favorite Ben and Jerry’s flavor to advice she would give her high school self.

What is your favorite Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor?

Good question, I’d go for the “Tonight Dough”.

What is your favorite travel destination?

My most favorite travel destination-so far- was when I backpacked Europe. Of those places visited, my favorite cities were: London for the friendly people, Paris for the sights and food, and Italy for the history.

Who is your favorite historical figure?

This is a tough one…I’m actually a big fan of John Adams, as he did a lot of behind the scenes work in the development of our country.

How and why did you decide to work with students?

Wanting to work with students actually began when I was in high school. I really wanted to make a positive impact on people’s lives, so I decided to go into education.

Have you picked up any new hobbies or started any projects during quarantine?

I really focused on increasing my reading and personal study at the beginning of quarantine. I also made personal strength training goals.

What advice would you give your high school self?

Keep pushing. Keep grinding. Don’t worry so much.

When you were in high school, what were your aspirations?

Athletically, I wanted to play college basketball. Career-wise, I wanted to work with high school students as a teacher and a coach.
