The Bollywood Club meets on Fridays after school with Indian food and dancing.
“Throughout this semester the club is going to have Indian dance sessions and teach Indian dance,” sophomore Bhavana Kota said, “There’s going to be a movie night soon and we will explore Indian movies and dances.”
There are seven girls behind the idea of the club. The president is Aishwarya Shashidhar, vice president is Aishwarya Noubad, Bhavana Kota is secretary, and Nikki Dhir is treasurer. The other three girls are Shiv Sheth, choreographer, Aina Khan, photographer, and Shruthi Krish as webmaster. Bollywood Club is sponsored by science teacher Dell Passovoy.
“We wanted to create a club for fun and what better than to make it about dancing and culture,” Kota said.
Each club meeting there will be different types of Indian food served. At the first meeting samosa with green chutney and gulab jamun – a sweet treat – was served.
Along with Indian food, there is, of course, the dancing. Freshman Sheth is the main teacher of the Bollywood dances, with the other staffers of the club as helpers. The girls taught three dances in front of the club, to three different songs, on Friday.
“The bottom line of this club is to learn how to Bollywood dance,” Sheth said.
The Bollywood Club will be performing at the Culture Fair, the leaders of the club and anyone else who learns the dance. They will also be having a movie night Feb. 22.
The next club meeting is on Jan. 25.
