MTV’s ultra popular reality series “The Real World” debuted recently for its 28th season. This year, the show takes place in Portland, Oregon, only the second time the show has taken place in the Pacific Northwest since it was based in Seattle in 1998.
The show is based around the dynamic that seven complete strangers live in a house together for several months as the show documents the happenings of the house and their lives. Naturally, seven strangers won’t all get along while living with each other over an extended period of time, creating the edginess the show thrives on.
Combined with the outgoingness of people in their young 20s and plenty of long nights, “The Real World” sets up a show that keeps viewers in the younger demographics entertained over the long haul.
This season features three males (Johnny, Jordan and Marlon) and four females (Anastasia, Averey, Jessica and Joi) to make up the house. The show gets an Austin flavor with cast member Marlon Williams, who hails from Pflugerville High School where he played football for our district foes. He eventually went on to play at Texas Tech. The show hinted at a new cast member who will join the house later in the season, Nia Moore. It is unclear whether that means a current member of the house will leave or not.
One of the longest running shows on television, “The Real World” needs no extra hype as viewers continue to flock to the drama and hostility of complete strangers. If the first episode hinted at anything, it was that this installment should be another good one.
