It’s without a doubt that caffeine plays an essential role in the lives of high-school students.
After all, it’s what keeps students energized for early morning classes and 6 a.m. soccer meets. Each student has their preferred way of starting the day. To get a better understanding, we spoke with several students to find out what gives them the kick they need for a successful day.
Senior Reagan Garcia starts her day with a protein shake and follows with a Celcius.
“I drink a Celcius to wake me up and a protein shake to keep me full throughout the day,” Garcia said. “I decided I like Celcius because my older sister used to drink them everyday, so I started drinking them unti I preferred them over other energy drinks”
Garcia explains that Premier Protein is her go-to brand for protein shakes.
“I have personal favoritism towards the Premier Protein Café Latte because it’s what our family has gotten for years,” Garcia said. “It’s always in our fridge so I’ve learned to love them.”
Premier Protein is an all-in-one food supplement with 30g of protein and 100mg of caffeine, making it the perfect grab-and-go breakfast option for when you’re running late, or not!
Senior Ruth Morales’ morning beverage fluctuates between two drinks, Redbull, and coffee.
“I like getting a Redbull from the Walgreens near my house but sometimes I’ll get coffee from Starbucks or Dunkin’ Donuts,” Morales said. “I’ll drink another Redbull if I’m scheduled to close at Chick-fil-a, I typically work right after school so if I have the opportunity, I get two caffeine drinks a day.
Junior Sofia Rogers doesn’t drink caffeine in the morning, but instead opts for a glass of chocolate milk.
“I drink chocolate milk in the morning because I usually have 3-4 practices during the day and milk has a lot of protein, I don’t like caffeine because it makes me crash,” Rogers said. “I usually only drink it in the mornings but I have weight-lifting, water polo and soccer so I’ll drink more for the extra protein.”
Senior Luchi Papasidero doesn’t have a consistent morning beverage and only drinks protein shakes when she needs to get out the door quickly.
“I drink FairLife protein shakes three to four times a week,” Papasidero said. “I’ve tried other brands like Muscle Milk but personally didn’t like them.”
Papasidero isn’t an avid coffee drinker or energy drink consumer due to the price and rush the caffeine gives her.
“I drink coffee when I have the money, like Starbucks for example,” Papasidero said. “I’m not the biggest fall menu fan but once they announce the winter menu I’ll definitely be there more.”
In the end, it’s clear that caffeine and protein play an essential role in energizing high school students through their busy days, whether it’s early morning classes, sports practices, or evening shifts at work. Each student has found their own go-to beverage that keeps them on-their-feet and focused.
