The library hosted a “Reading Party” last Wednesday and Thursday for students to gather and read together simultaneously. The event was all day to accommodate student’s schedules in all grade levels; students could’ve stopped by anytime with a pass, on their lunch or during an off period.
“I actually recently read about reading parties first on New York Times,” Falli said. “These reading parties were primarily for adults hence why they were all usually in a bar, but I thought it was a good idea because it gives an opportunity to adults to sit out for a second and read, among fellow readers, it’s nice it gives them a space to have this kind of interaction and we know that kind of thing is often seldom in adults busy lives.”
To prepare for the event, Falli rearranged the library and bought new equipment to accommodate the younger audience, including new lamps, drinks and vases to provide a “cozy” ambience.
“Well I went and bought all new stuff, of course, I put my own twist on these reading parties for them to be suitable for kids your age,” Falli said. “So we had a coffee and tea station where students can indulge in a warm drink to pair with their reading time.”
Falli said the event didn’t take long to throw together thanks to the help of some library aides.
“Moving the furniture I had help from Kayden, which was a great help, I could not have done it by myself,” Falli said. “So I definitely had librarian aides helping me put this together, the flower and vase placements were all done by Vaibhavy and Chloe who arranged the flowers in such a pretty way.”
