As the second semester of the school year begins, seniors enter a transitional period of looking toward the future while embracing the end of their time in highschool.
Entering this point in life seniors can face new responsibilities such as deciding where to go to school and what major to choose.
“I’m visiting my top colleges again and I am still trying to decide what specific major I want to be in order to reach my professional goals,” senior Kyle Weaver said. “I discovered that I wanted to go into the medical field and become a doctor based off of a really great experience on a mission trip my sophomore year of highschool that inspired me to help people.”
Along with the burden of new responsibilities, new emotions have also been apparent as the end of highschool approaches.
“It’s a new chapter of my life,” senior Tigerlily Broomfield said. “I feel excited but nervous to start being an adult and moving away. It’s pretty exciting to finally be over with highschool, but it’s going to be sad to see all my friends gone.”
Senior Caleb Carter is grateful for his experiences over the past few years of highschool as he believes they have helped shape him into the person he is today.
“I worked really hard in band and helped bring it up to the next level,” Carter said. “We are now one of the best in the state and I also got a chance to compete and make an all-state band which was really exciting .”
Reflecting on these past years Carter believes he has learned valuable lessons throughout his time in highschool that he only wishes he had learned sooner.
“Make sure you plan for college in advance so that you take the right classes and don’t wait till junior year,“ Carter said. “ I’ve learned to be patient with myself and like just being able to live in the moment a little bit better and not try to control things myself all the time.”
With three months left in this era of life Carter believes he is ready to graduate and for what comes in life.
“I’m trying to keep my grades up and staying prepared on top of planning for what I’m going to do this summer with camps and internships,” Carter said. ”I’m excited for highschool to be over and I’m going to try to make the most of it but it’s definitely going to be great when I get to go on to college.”
