Laufey released the third album of her career, “A Matter of Time”, on Aug. 22. In the clean version of this album, Laufey denounces love and life by singing of the troubles that come with them. The dream-like theme of the album combined with the beautiful messages of each song makes for one of her best albums yet.
Snow White is one of the best received releases on the album. The song Snow White acknowledges the hardships of living in this society as a woman; with Laufey declaring that, “The world is a sick place, at least for a girl.” It also explores the themes of harmful beauty standards in our society, and familiar feelings of failure and envy.
In the song Lover Girl, Laufey sings about a recently developed crush, finding herself turning into the “love-struck girl” she thought she’d never become. This song has bossa nova and pop influences, giving the audience a calm, delightful listen, despite the surprising love story being told.
Silver Lining, the third track of the album, dives into a more playful side of romance using lines like, “We’ve been kissing on the playground, acting like little kids,” to tell yet another love story. In this song, Laufey promises loyalty and claims that even during the worst events, everything would be okay as long as she is with the one she loves.
Reaching Billboard’s Top 200 upon release, Laufey’s “A Matter of Time” is a strong addition to not only her discography, but her career as a whole. With each track offering something different and unique, we are allowed to see what Laufey is capable of as she makes her mark on the music industry.
