Like every summer, fashion trends have circulated around the internet and influenced many people, and this summer was no different. Trends from butter yellow to tankinis were all the rage, but which ones will be here to stay through the school year, or disappear into microtends and end up in landfills.
Patterns were one of the biggest trends this summer. Polka dots, gingham and so many more caught the media’s eye. A specific piece that was trending was the polka dot zara skirt.
“My favorite fashion trend of the summer was polka dots,” sophomore Norah Heckler said. “They were so unique and they added a pop of something fun to every outfit.”
Though these trends may have been a fad this summer, by the end of fall they will end up in charity shops. Another trend that has already fallen victim to this is butter yellow. This color was “the” summer color, yet it’s already fading away with the autumn incoming, and people transitioning into fall wardrobes.
“I love butter yellow as a summer color. It’s very unique and I like how people are incorporating it into their outfits.” said Heckler. “I did in fact fall to the trend, I got a butter yellow brandy top, but I think butter yellow will disappear because with fall fashion trends coming in, they are darker colors and butter yellow is more of a bright summer color.”
Footwear wasn’t neglected this summer, with frye boots being a staple in many wardrobes, even a favorite to some.
“The boots are my favorite,” senior Denisse Ubalde said.” I feel like when I wear boots it gives the outfit a little bit of a spark. It gives you a lot of style [and] makes the fit how the fit is supposed to look.”
Frye boots weren’t the only shoes that were trending this summer, with flip flops being another shoe that caught people’s attention.
“I feel like a lot of people have been wearing flip flops,¨ sophomore Carolyn Huang said. “I personally didn’t wear flip flops, but I saw it a lot on social media. People are bringing back flip flops. I think they are cute. I just don’t have a good pair of flip flops to wear.”
Some trends have carried over from last summer. Those pieces are known more as “timeless pieces”. There are some predictions for what trends will do the same from this summer till next summer, including long flowy maxi skirts, low rise, and tankinis.
“I think some trends that will carry over to next summer would be a lot of floral prints, as well as just pastel colors.” Heckler said.
