Angel
I aggressively drop my oversized school bag on the cold concrete floor of my apartment and let out an exhausted sigh. After this day of complete horror, all I want to do is curl up in bed with my earphones and an Eagles album and drown in my own anxiety.
I can’t think of anything positive that happened today: I got locked out of my car, the sky decided to drench all my school work and smear the ink on my very important report, I still have no friends after a half a semester, and my mom is still ignoring me since I decided to go to the college I wanted to go to and not the one she wanted me to go to. Maybe she was right and I shouldn’t have gone here.
As I sit on the floor with my head in my knees trying to escape the horrid world around me, my sweet honey colored Golden Retriever dog Angel pushes my head up with her wet black nose and gently greets me with a puppy smile and a gentle lick on my face. I giggle and grin at her motion of restoration towards me.
I can’t help but smile for the first time today and join my furry best friend in war (with a stuffed animal of course). It’s like she knew my feelings and that I needed a hug of love to get me going. It’s crazy that an act of kindness of my childhood pet could bring me such instantaneous joy.
I was wrong. I do have friends. I actually have a bestfriend. Angel truly is an angel.
