Fifteen Latin students competed at St. Andrew’s school in Area competition, with all 15 qualifying and advancing to State.
Among the qualifiers was the Novice Certamen team, consisting of Sruthi Kosuru, Kate Leyendecker, Juan Rodriguez and Delaney Quinn, placing third overall. Patrick Cryan received a trophy for the highest score in Ancient Geography, an impressive achievement alone.
Corina Acosta placed third in Sight Recitation, Mai-Lan-Bui received a magna cum laude in Pentathlon and Cryan took second place in Roman History. Lilia Dinh placed third in Roman Life, Ethan Freeburg placed third in Advanced Grammar, Ben Hrechko received a magna cum laude in Pentathlon, and Kosuru placed second in Decathlon. Anthony Lau placed second in mottoes/phrases, Leyendecker placed second in Roman Life and third in Latin Derivatives, Ice Limchantra placed third in mottoes/phrases, and Quinn placed third in reading comprehension. Rodriguez placed first in vocabulary and second in Sight Recitation, Dylan Sample placed third in Roman History, Rachel Scruggs received magna cum laude in Pentathlon, and Ben Titus received a maxima cum laude in Pentathlon.
The 15 students will compete at the State competition in Dallas in April.
