The Austin Rodeo will be in town Mar. 8-23 at the Dr. Charles W. Graham Western Heritage Center to provide fun for the entire family. Rides, food, livestock shows and other activities of Texan culture will be offered at Rodeo Austin.
“The rodeo is something you won’t find anywhere else,” sophomore Margaret Duncan said. “It’s a great place full of Texan culture and fun.”
One of Rodeo Austin’s biggest attractions is the fair. Many rides are featured on the fairgrounds including a tilt-a-whirl, starship, pirate ship and a tall ferris wheel to view it all from.
“The rides are really fun,” Duncan said. “There aren’t any roller coasters, but the spinning rides are great.”
Another popular part of the rodeo is the carnival food. Though there aren’t many options for vegetarians, the rodeo offers a wide variety of foods. From pizza on a stick to fried oreos, the rodeo never fails to provide unique food.
“The food is really good,” sophomore Lauren Rodriguez said. “It’s all very unique and Texan.”
Other classic rodeo activities take place at Rodeo Austin as well. The livestock show is a rodeo event enjoyed by members of the FFA.
“I signed up for the livestock show in November,” sophomore Derek Delacruz said. “This will probably be my favorite rodeo memory.”
Austin culture is brought to the rodeo as well through the many concerts that take place daily. Famous performers, such as the Josh Abbott Band, have performed concerts at the rodeo.
“I would recommend that people stay for the concerts,” sophomore Aish Shashidhar said. “They are always cool and fun.”
With all of the popular events of the rodeo come long lines and large crowds. Waits for rides and food can be up to 10 minutes long.
“I really don’t like the lines,” Shashidhar said. “But the rides, food and events are worth it.”
Rodeo Austin contains the events and atmosphere of Texas culture through entertainment for people of all ages.
“The rodeo is a great experience,” Rodriguez said. “It represents Texas and combines our western history with our modern Texas today.”
