Library Gets New Books on the Shelves
Ladies and gentlemen, put away those Barnes and Noble gift cards and cancel that hundred-dollar book order from Amazon — new books have arrived.
The school library received a shipment of new books, with titles from young adult veteran authors such as John Green (Looking for Alaska, The Fault in Our Stars), Ellen Hopkins (Crank, Burned) and even newcomer Rainbow Rowell (Eleanor and Park and the most recently released Fangirl). Fans of nonfiction will revel in the glory of that new book smell, with books on topics ranging from astronomy to the life of a hoarder.
“Essentially, we try to get books that students want or need,” librarian Amelia Bligh said. “McNeil has the oldest collection in the district, and we’re very lucky we still have a budget to buy books.”
The school’s book budget, corresponding to the student population, allows students to request books for the library to either purchase or borrow from other schools.
“It’s amazing that you can just look up your favorite book and ask them to order it for you,” junior Teshan Tissera said.
If you want to order a book, head on over to the library and look for the purple book request slips. Who knows? Maybe you’ll already find the book you want waiting there for you in its new, unadulterated glory.
“We want to try and get kids excited about reading,” librarian Laura Falli said. “Hearing that kids want to read makes us happy.”
