…and the Winner of Mr. Mav is…
The 11th Annual Mr. Maverick pageant winner was Mr. AFJROTC, Ryan Sabatino.
Sponsored by Student Council, the annual event is held each year in honor of Nick Cavanaugh, a former McNeil student. Mr. Maverick was something he wanted to have as a tradition at McNeil. Other schools have also followed in suit.
Mr. Mav was hosted by Spanish teacher Mark Killingbeck and sophomore class president Saheel Chodavadia.
The pageant started off with an opening dance which featured the 15 contestants followed by three categories: Casual Wear – the contestants modeled their casual wear clothing announced with their interests and hobbies; Talents – the participants showed off their skills; and Formal Wear with Teacher Escort – the contestants, in tuxedos donated by Men’s Warehouse, were escorted by a teacher of their choice
After a brief intermission, the final five were announced: Nick Ge, Mr. Mu Alpha Theta; Sabatino, Mr.AFJROTC; Justin Pittman, Mr.Band; Jalen McCou, Mr. Deaf Ed and David Williams, Mr. Latin Club.
The final five were determined from the judges’ scores from the casual wear, formal wear and talent rounds. These contestants were asked questions that added to their previous scores.
The Judges were Assistant Principal Mike Roche, and teachers Iris Castillo, Alison Bouwmann and Carolyn Lethin.
