Library Renamed in Honor of Beloved Crisis Counselor
Campus staff and district personnel gathered to celebrate the memory of Jinx Lacey, a former crisis counselor Sept. 17. Librarians Amelia Lewis and Laura Falli petitioned the school board to dedicate the library in Lacey’s memory and renamed it The Jinx Lacey Memorial Library.
In this small and intimate gathering, staff shared memories of a woman who lit up the school with her funny personality and caring attitude. She was remembered for her time and dedication to students and teachers.
“Jinx was a really funny person,” Lewis said. “She made everyone laugh and she always had the perfect thing to say.”
Lacey was an integral part of McNeil on many levels, including founding faculty, crisis counselor, BITS founder and champion of students and staff alike. The dedication ceremony brought in about 50 people to share fond and heart-warming stories.
Lacey’s sister and two daughters also joined in the memorial. It was a bittersweet moment in celebrating the life of someone as influential and loved as Lacey.
“Jinx was the sort of person left a lasting impact on you,” world languages teacher Judy Sasaridis said. “Everything she said and everything she did changed the person. You could learn a lot from her and that was a treasure.”
