Pre-and-Post-PSAT-Plans
Sophomores and juniors will take the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) sponsored by College Board Wednesday, Oct. 15.
The PSAT is a timed test which will take roughly 2 hours and 10 minutes to complete, and consists of three sections: Reading, Writing, and Math.
This test is also co-sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) and the top percentage of test scores will qualify for scholarships.
Juniors, do not take this test lightly. Not only does this test give a chance to earn free tuition, it is also a way to practice for the SAT later.
Upon entering the school, students testing will report to specified rooms alphabetized by last name according to the lists posted in the main mall and school entrances. Because the school day will be altered due to the test, each grade level will be doing something different. However, after testing, all students will be released to their third period. All lunches will remain the same. Students will have study time during third and fourth periods.
A breakdown of the events are as follows:
Sophomores and Juniors: Please arrive on time to class and be prepared to take the test. It is recommended to bring a calculator and No. 2 pencil.
Seniors: Seniors will be filling out ApplyTexas applications, learning about financial aid for college and other important info regarding senior year. Students needing to take the TSI (Texas Success Initiative) test will be testing instead of doing the above activities. A letter was sent home to those who needed to test.
Freshmen: A seminar will be held for freshmen to learn about credits, attendance, and other information regarding college preparation. Freshmen who registered to take the PSAT will not attend this seminar and are required to report to their respective rooms listed on the signs.
All students are planned to be released from their activities/tests at 1:25 p.m. to go to third period study hall or A lunch. Please note that events/times are subject to change.
