Orchestra Students Rock at Region
On Oct. 11, a group of orchestra students auditioned for the TMEA Region 26 Orchestra.
By the end three hours of auditions for two separate cuts of music, 10 students successfully made it in: Edward Wang (1st violin, 1st chair); Katherine Perks (2nd violin, 1st chair); Jessica Lau (2nd violin, 7th chair); Ivy Lee (2nd violin, 10th chair); Sumin Son (cello, 3rd chair); Jocelyn Li (cello, 12th chair); Enoch Ng (cello, 15th chair); Daniel Zheng (cello, 16th chair); Justin Lee (cello, 17th chair); and Phillip Truitt (bass, 5th chair).
This year’s results are even more significant because both violin sections are going to be led by McNeil students.
“I’m honored to be given this privilege to be concertmaster of a region as competitive as this one,” Wang said. “This is a blessing that I will forever cherish.”
There will be a clinic at McNeil for the region orchestra to rehearse before its final performance with the middle school region orchestras on Nov. 15 at the Raymond Hartfield Performing Arts Center.
