23 Honorees Receive Leadership Award

McNeil students receive the Social Studies Leadership award.

The Social Studies Department hosted its 2015 Leadership in Social Studies Awards May 19. The ceremony honored students who displayed leadership, productivity and integrity in their social studies classes.

“The award was for showing leadership in class, like helping the teacher out,” senior Elexis Cook said.

A total of 23 students were honored and received a certificate and a medal to commemorate the award. Social studies classes include regular and Pre-AP World Geography, regular and AP World History, regular and AP U.S. History, AP Psychology,  Government, Economics and Sociology.

“I never liked history before this year, but Mrs. [Karol] Giblin changed that,” sophomore Nicole Bogusch said. “I think she saw my growth in the class and that’s why she chose me.”

Students serve as an example to other students in how they should be more proactive and diligent in their classes and to their school, qualities that can likely help them in the future.

“You can’t really work for this award,” junior Monica Nguyen said. “It’s an accumulation of dedication and enthusiasm and working together with your classmates.”
