And the Champion Team is … Balf4first
NHS hosts 2nd annual Trivia Night
The National Honor Society hosted its second annual Trivia Night Nov. 19 with around 50 teams signed up to participate compared to the 36 teams from last year.
“I wanted to make a team because it sounded like fun and I wanted to do it because it’s my last year,” senior Jaiden Long said.
Long’s team, formed from her yearbook class, won second place. The “Crop It Like It’s Hot” team also included publications adviser Theresa Proctor, Zane Johnson (12), Mariah Ortega (11), Jason Rhodes (12) and Violla George (12).
“I didn’t think we were going to place, but when our name was announced in the top five, we got really excited and competitive,” Long said.
Students made teams of six and were allowed to have one adult on the team. There were eight categories of Trivia ranging from secondary movie characters to book titles to TV theme songs.
After each round, a team member ran the answer sheet to the cafeteria stage to hand to the NHS officers who were the judges. Halfway through, the top five teams were announced.
Social studies teachers offered their students extra credit to participate and NHS members got a community service point for their participation.
Winning first place was the team “Bal4first” with AP English III teacher Erin Balfour and seniors Josh Trunick, Garrett Hailes, Luke Pevoto, Delaney Quinn and Hudson Moran.
“Our team name was chosen by the students, I didn’t know about it until the day of,” Balfour said. “I was incredibly nervous. I had expressed my concerns at lunch; my team had high expectations of me and I was worried I would not live up to the hype.”
In third place was Matt Hoover’s girls’ golf team the “Strokes of Genius.”
