Project Grad collects unwanted, used items
Project Graduation is holding a pick-up from Aug.15 to Nov. 15 to collect unwanted items from students and community members.
“It is an outlet [to the community] to give unwanted and unused items to a good cause,” Carolyn Kyzar, one of the organizers for this event, said.
The types of unwanted items Project Grad are requesting are technology: computers and anything relating to computers, cameras, printers, fax machines, car and home equipment, and VCR players. Other items can include nonfiction books, DVDs, jewelry, clothes and more. A detailed list can be found on the Project Grad website. These items can either be in perfect, used, or damaged conditions.
“It would be great for the students to encourage their family, family friends and teachers to donate their unwanted items,” Kyzar said.
The items collected are going to be bought by Easter Seals and a company in Dallas. The money the two companies offer for these items will go towards Project Grad for the all-night graduation party for seniors in June.
It is undetermined how much money Project Grad has made so far during the middle of the collection, but four trucks have been filled for the Easter Seals.
“We hope to earn more than $3,000 from these events,” Kyzar said.
The profit from the donations will be connected with the Craft/Holiday Bazaar being held on Nov. 19 since students and the community can donate their items at the bazaar. Project Grad encourages seniors to participate in the donations and bazaar.
Students and families can schedule a pickup by contacting Kyzar or Jen Markle, the co-fundraiser chair, and students can drop off their items at Uncle Bob’s Storage Unit across from the baseball field on McNeil Drive.
Your donation will support the student journalists of McNeil High School. Your contribution will allow us to purchase equipment and cover our annual website hosting costs.
