Spanish Honor Society inducted new members on Jan. 26. More than 60 sophomores and juniors became official members of the honor society and will help promote the Spanish culture.

“I feel honored to be able to participate in this society,” sophomore Michelle Koh said. “It’s really cool how we get to volunteer and enjoy the culture in the Spanish language.”

SHS members participate in activities such as Spanish Karaoke and visit museums where they experience the Spanish culture in an enriching manner.

“Spanish Honor Society gives the opportunity for members to use Spanish in the real context and interact with Spanish people,” SHS sponsor Anna Gallegos said. “The transformation of the members through time and experience is really amazing.”

SHS promotes volunteering at the Round Rock Serving Center as well as at homes for immigrant children, such as Posada Esperanza. Through SHS, members learn important values such as persistence and kindness through the volunteer experience.

“It’s amazing how all the members become more responsible and really embrace the social work of our organization,” Gallegos said. “It’s all about making a difference.”
