Marvelous Mavs
3 students celebrate amazing achievements
Three Mavericks received awards in January for their efforts.
Senior Dylan McCoy accomplished a perfect score on the recent ACT test.
“I studied as much as I could when it came to certain subjects on the ACT I knew I needed practice on,” McCoy said. “For example, writing was the one I knew I needed to work on, so I studied that subject a lot more.”
The ACT is scheduled to be taken by students every other month at McNeil with the highest grade possible being a 36.
At the Area meeting and competition, junior Sarah Lee became the Area president of Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA).
“Going for the position of president was difficult,” Lee said. “I had to be in the top 10 percent of the candidacy and know the history and goals of the HOSA organization. After placing fifth for testing for the position of vice president, the previous officers of the club thought I would be a better fit for the next step up, which was president.”
HOSA is a national student organization that strives to promote career opportunities in the healthcare industry, as well as make sure quality health options are distributed to all people.
And senior Brandon Vo received the AP and Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Achievement in Engineering honor.
McCoy seemed to sum up the honors for all three.
“I had to work really hard, and because of that, I got a perfect score,” McCoy said. “I just made sure to give 100 percent of my effort and it really paid off.”
