Reppin’ in the 512 and the 808
Annual spring show ‘Illusions’ 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday at PAC
The McNeil dance department, RRISD middle school dance departments, kiddie clinic classes, and parents of Majestics are scheduled to perform at the annual spring show Illusions, with this year’s theme being ‘512- All Hinges Austin’.
The showcase will be held on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and costs $5 for students and $10 for adults. The dances will represent events in Austin or special qualities about the city.
Not only are the Majestics honoring Austin and it’s culture, they also performed at the Pearl Harbor Memorial in honor of the fallen soldiers, alongside other RRISD drill teams.
“All of the girls felt really emotional during the performance,” junior manager Carolyn Potral said. “Especially the ones with family members in the military. Everyone felt honored to be dancing for the family members of the military. Each team, McNeil, Cedar RIdge, Westwood, Stony Point, and Round Rock, received a U.S. flag that had actually been flown on the USS Missouri.”
The trip lasted 5 nights for the district drill teams at Oahu on Waikiki Beach and included snorkeling at Hanauma Bay, hiking at Diamond Head State Monument, and luaus.
“My favorite part was snorkeling in Hanauma Bay because we got to see all the marine life,” junior Grace Lippert said. “It was very beautiful, even if the water was super cold. But it was very emotional learning about all the soldiers who sacrificed their own lives for our freedoms.”
