Students plan gun violence protest
(Disclaimer: Although campus officials do not officially condone the student protest, they understand this brief is for informational purposes.)
A school walkout in protest of gun violence will take place April 20 from 10 a.m. to 1:20 p.m. outside the B wing where participants will gather and then walk to the lawn next to the Raymond E. Hartfield Performing Arts Center.
As part of the #NationalSchoolWalkout and #NeverAgain movements led by students, the walkout will include petitions, student speeches, voter registration provided by the League of Women Voters, and discussion about gun control policies.
Participants are encouraged to wear orange and stand in solidarity with the victims of past school shootings, as well as speak their minds throughout the protest.
The only punishment that will be given to students who peacefully protest will be an unexcused absence.
Follow the official @mcneilwalkout Instagram and Twitter for more information about the protest and text @mcneilwalk to 81010 for event updates.
