The federal government will be conducting an alert test this afternoon, Oct. 4 at 1:20 p.m. Cellphones, radios and televisions across the nation will receive an alert from the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA). The scheduled alert is meant to test how efficient the system is in reaching the public for potential emergencies. The EAS system is used to send out warnings and alerts for important emergency information, such as weather and AMBER alerts.
