Muslim Student Association Is Back At McNeil
The Muslim Student Association (MSA) has been brought back to McNeil. They hosted their first meeting Monday, Oct. 2 after school in Ms. Rail’s room. An MSA chapter had previously existed at McNeil but was inactive for a few years.
“I feel like it was important to bring back MSA to McNeil because I feel like MSA can really bring the community together,” junior MSA President Zoya Khan said.
This year, Khan and the other officers have plans to host bake sales, other fundraisers, social events and competitions through MSA.
“We are collaborating with other MSAs from other schools in the Austin area to host social events at the ICBC masjid,” Khan said. “We will also participate in MIST which is a competition event for Muslim students or any students that are a part of MSA.”
Muslim Interscholastic Tournament (MIST) is a yearly competition between MSAs from different schools in the area.
“MSA is a club that is open to everyone even if you’re not Muslim, and we just want everyone to know that even if you are not Muslim, there’s a place for you to learn and be a part of a community where everyone is unified,” Khan said.
