Thursday, May 9 at 6:30 p.m. and Friday, May 10 at 6:30 p.m., Mav Theatre is performing Mean Girls the Musical Jr in the Black Box.
The musical is the first student-led musical production at McNeil.
“We’ve never done a student-directed musical before,” sophomore Kaitlyn Kenney said. “It’s been great for everyone involved in the show but also super challenging.”
This production has pushed many students out of their comfort zones. Many of the roles are outside of students’ normal roles and many who would normally be acting in the production are now directing and taking on authority roles in the production.
“We might get stressed from time to time because people are worried they will look stupid,” Kenney said. “You have to just get out of your comfort zone and look stupid to end up looking good.”
This musical has also allowed for bonding experiences as they are working with people they don’t typically work with.
“This is a very good opportunity to connect with other people,” sophomore Maxton Newman said. “You get to collaborate and work on scenes together, and I’ve gotten to know a lot of cast members a lot better”
Tickets for Mean Girls the Musical can be bought at the Round Rock ISD box office. Tickets cost $10 for students and $12 for adults.
