Known for his iconic voice, actor James Earl Jones passed away in New York on Sept. 9 at age 93. James Earl Jones is best known for the “Star Wars” Series, “Field of Dreams” and “The Lion King.”
Jones was the star villain, Darth Vader, in the “Star Wars” series. He starred as Darth Vader in 1977 in “Star Wars: A New Hope”
“Star Wars is my favorite movie family,” AP John Mark Edwards said. “The character of Darth Vader and the voice will be some of the most memorable of all time. I think his death is very sad. From what I know, Mr. Jones lived a long and full life.”
Another well known role Jones is remembered for is being the voice of Mufasa in “The Lion King” in 1994. Edwards said he loved “The Lion King” as a kid and even saw it in the theater.
“James Earl Jones gives so much heart that Mufasa’s passing affects the whole audience like he was our own father,” animation Teacher David Peacock said. “We feel the same pain as Simba. The words his spirit gives his son to inspire him back to his purpose fill us with inspiration as well. It’s no wonder that Mufasa is the only character to be voiced by the same actor in the 2019 remake as the original 1994 film.”
Peacock said Jones was amazing at acting, this was shown when he was the only actor they kept when producers changed the cast of the Jack Ryan films after “The Hunt for Red October.”
“James Earl Jones has been a voice of authority and power for my entire life, the loss of such an amazing performer is devastating to me,” Peacock said.”He wasn’t pretentious about the films he would do. He was just as willing to give his all to a kids movie as he was to an academy award winning drama.”
Jones also starred in “Field of Dreams” as a writer named Terence Mann in 1989. He also appears in “The Sandlot” in 1993, “Coming to America” in 1998, “Robots” in 2005 and many others.
