The Round Rock bond was passed for prop A, B and C last Tuesday, Nov. 5. This bond was composed of four propositions to make upgrades and address needs across the district.
According to the RRISD website, prop A consists of $798.3 million for campus and districtwide projects such as replacing HVAC systems, roofing, electrical and plumbing systems to improve the condition of aging facilities.
Prop B, $125.3 million to upgrade instructional technology and infrastructure to support modern learning. Lastly prop C consists of $8.6 million to allow for improvements and upgrades to fine arts programs.
“I think that this is a really good thing taking effect,” junior Owen Rhea said. “The PAC is really outdated so it will benefit everyone as a whole, band, choir and theater. It’ll also make the atmosphere more enjoyable for the audience when there’s a performance taking place.”
The only proposition that was not passed was Prop D, according to the RRISD website, prop D would consist of $65.9 million for improvements to existing athletic facilities such as upgrades to lighting and scoreboards and adding artificial turf to competition fields. This proposition also includes the construction of a new multipurpose athletic facility to be used by students and staff throughout the district. The question posed with Prop D was whether it is necessary when the district already has Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex to hold sports events.
“As an athlete I think Prop D would’ve had a very positive impact on the district,” junior Fernando Gonzales said. “If we had a newer larger area to utilize, it would keep us from always having to relocate, especially for track. If this facility were to have a track around it then we could use it for districts.”
Even though Prop D wasn’t passed, many district employees and students look forward to the new upgrades across their campus.
“I’m looking forward to what upgrades will be made across our school campus in the following years,” quarterbacks coach Brad Croak said. “I think it’ll be a really good thing for our campus, there are always things that can be upgraded, and it’s great that we’re bettering the environment for the kids.”
