Administration recently announced a new job opportunity on campus for students at the Java City Coffee Cafe near the cafeteria.
The Cafe is connected to the backside of the cafeteria facing the main hall, it is currently unknown when the cafe will be opening but it will be operating weekday mornings from 7 a.m to 9 a.m. once open. The pay rate for students will be starting at $14 an hour and interviews and applications will be held during student lunch times.
“On staff we had arranged from five employees to only sometimes two of us,” senior Elizabeth Dutton said. “I cashiered, worked on the espresso machine and on the blender machine making smoothies. We had chips, pop tarts and rice crispies for snacks just like the ones that are also out to buy during lunch.”
Dutton said the experience working at Java City Coffee was important because it encouraged her work ethic.
“Working at Java City Coffee allowed me to always be on time to my classes since work hours are 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the morning and I was getting paid,” Dutton said. “I’m not there this year because I have other opportunities but others should definitely go for it. It’s convenient and it’s helpful to kids who want to work or need a job.”
