At the book fair this week, students browsed the wide selection of genres, authors and titles on sale this year, allowing many students to find a book that fit their reading style.
“[I bought] ‘Like a Love Song’ [by Gabriela Martins]. I thought it was interesting because the cover had this girl who was leaving a guy. It was mysterious and caught my attention,” freshman Nicys Cantillano said. “I usually enjoy reading romance books, I just love romance and find love very cute. This year the books are very interesting. I liked how they had other stuff too, like little notebooks and toys you could buy.”
Additionally, the large selection included books that have been made into movies popular with students.
“‘You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah’ [by Fiona Rosenbloom] was a movie that I saw and I thought it was really good, so now I want to read the book,” freshman Katherine Reddick said. “This year there was a good selection of genres which are good for different people. I usually enjoy reading romance and mystery because they’re fun and entertaining.”
Some of the books also reminded students of the ones they used to read as a kid, making the experience more enjoyable for some.
“It reminded me of my childhood and Big Nate [by Lincoln Peirce] has always been funny,” senior Timi Adegbite said. “I thought [the book fair] was designed really nice, it was really fun and vibrant compared to other years. I usually enjoy sci-fi books or comic books.”
Along with childhood remembrances, fair prices also gave students an opportunity to splurge on books as well as merchandise such as posters.
“‘Dragon Ball Super’ [by Akira Toriyama] was three dollars so that is pretty cool, the price for the poster [$10] is really good so I’m thinking of buying the Dragon Ball book and maybe also the [Dragon Ball] poster,” senior Miguel Videsrivera said. “I like comic books and realistic books. Right now I’m reading some mafia books. I liked the variety, there was a lot of different stuff this year.”
