Asian American Pacific Islander Club hosted their fourth meeting of the year on Friday, Jan. 24 to celebrate Lunar New Year as the holiday approaches. During the meeting, officers presented members with a volunteer opportunity, awarded their January AAPI member of the month and hosted a trivia about the celebrated holiday with snacks and prizes.
“My favorite part [of today’s meeting] was probably trivia,” sophomore Alyna Lee said. “Because we got to listen to how everyone thought of all the questions and there were different variations.”
Lunar New Year is a 15-day long holiday originating from China to celebrate the arrival of spring and the beginning of the new year. The holiday is mainly celebrated in East Asia and corresponds with one of the 12 Chinese zodiac signs.
“[I enjoy] probably being around my family during the holiday,” Lee said. “Especially when we eat dinner. All of our family always gets together and has a big dinner together and we all get to reunite.”
