Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, Round Rock ISD high schools will no longer require cumulative (EOC) final exams, finals week schedules or offer attendance-based exemptions.
The move aims to reduce stress and maximize instructional time allowing students to continue their regular academic schedules. Teachers may still choose to assign final exams or end of course projects, but all students are required to participate in end of semester activities.
“This change aligns with our commitment to student-centered learning and gives teachers the flexibility to assess students in ways that are more aligned to their course objectives,” said Superintendent Hafedh Azaiez.
Semester grades will be calculated as an average of the two quarter grades with Quarters 1 and 2 equalling the Semester 1 grade and Quarters 3 and 4 making up the Semester 2 grade.
The change does not affect State of Texas End-of-Course (EOC) exams, Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), or dual-credit college courses.
